Flores

For those of you who think they are going the wrong way...

Since they are well ahead of Robyn and me, they have decided to go to Flores first before going on to Faial. Flores is the little island way north and west of Faial. They've got 5 1/2 days before they will be meeting us, so they are doing some sightseeing. They have about 200 miles to Flores, then another 100 miles to Faial.

Eric doesn't know this but we will be staying at the Pousada de Santa Cruz for a couple of nights while in Horta, Faial. This is a 16th-century fort (converted to a hotel with 26 rooms) that was declared a national monument in 1947. It overlooks the Horta marina and if anyone is interested you can see photos following this link, http://www.azores.com/travel/hotel.php?id=40

It looks great. Anything that old, maybe it'll have a ghost. That would be almost as cool as seeing a whale!

The sun will soon be setting tonight in the Eastern Atlantic and the crew of Severance and their Captain will within the hour see the lights of Flores just 35 miles in the distance.
Congratulation's.

I hope you two have a wonderful trip. I can feel Robyn's excitement through the phone lines. Hugs to Eric and Scott as well!
