Bermuda to Azores – Day 8

Time: 05/28/2008 1200 UTC

Lat: 37 deg 58' N

Lon: 51 deg 13' W

Heading: 98 M

Speed: 6 kt

Wind: S 5-10 kt

Seas: 1-3 ft

Weather:  Rainy and cool, 55 deg F.

Shouldn't have complained about sailing into the wind – at least we were moving closer to Bermuda.

Last night, the winds completely died, and we found ourselves drifting backwards in a counter-current.  After two hours, we were right back where we were four hours earlier.  We took the sails down and drifted, waiting for the wind to change.  This morning, around 0600 UTC, they finally did.  Southerly.  Finally.  We're moving towards the Azores.  And fast, we're hitting 8.5 knots in this gust as I type.

It's been raining all day.  The fog is so thick that there is no reason to stand watch in the cockpit – we can only see 300 feet.  With the radar, we can spot ships from 15 miles away.  The three of us are holed away in the comfort of the cabin, reading, writing and baking.  The radar alarm beeps periodically to remind us to keep watch.

Spirits are high, it's going to be a 150 mile day.  We're moving again.
