We had a fun sail yesterday. With only 130 miles to cover, it feels a bit like a daysail. And at one point, there were five sailboats within a 6 mile circle. We were constantly trimming, reefing, shaking reefs, trying to find enough speed to hang with these larger boats. Finally, the wind shifted more on the nose. Normally this would be undesirable, but it took all but one other boat off the lay line, giving us a marked advantage over the rest of the fleet. Ten hours after leaving Lajes, we finally overtook the one boat who held the line.
Of course, it's moot, we're not racing, and as soon as Horta is dead into the wind for these other boats, they likely motor the rest of the way. You're only racing against boats you're beating…
We're only a few miles from Horta now. Robyn and my mother have probably arrived from the airport already. We're very excited to join them.

Well I am just catching up with you guys. Retirement has been a lot busier than I had anticipated. The last two weeks I have been in San Antonio covering the storms and flooding in the midwest for the staff here at army north. It is supposed to be to cover hurricanes but there aren't any out there. Looks like a good storm came through the Azores over the last couple of days. I'll be home on Saturday and hopefuly the boat will be fixed
Mr. E!
Thanks to all of you for the blog. I enjoy reading it quite a bit.
I got your text. I could find no page with the seacas and the specific Garmin units you mentioned. Here is the info I could find:
Garmin 4000 / 5212 Series Connection Instructions
White(RX1A) ----> Green(TX)
White/Orange(RX1B) ----> Blue (GND)
Gray (TX1A) ----> White(RX)
Pink(TX1B) ----> Floating
remember to set the NMEA port to High speed
AND
Garmin 3200-series Connection Instructions
The 3200 series installation manual explains which wires to connect to our 100-model: Connect the SafePassageAIS green wire to the Garmin brown wire (=port 1). Connect the SafePassage blue wire to the Garmin black wire.
The owners manual explains how to configure the 3210 to receive AIS data (set port 1 to high speed).
The garmin 3210 and the 3010 use the same housing. I would expect their connection to be the same. The 3005 is slightly different but it may be similar to the 3010.
A good voyage to you, captain, and crew.

Amazing how difficult this information is to find. Billions of web pages in the world and I found a handfull with information regarding this system.
